Hai Yang Bu Yu Tian Di on 3Win8: How the Fish Shooting Table Works

Hai Yang Bu Yu Tian Di (roughly "ocean fishing world") is not a slot. It is an arcade fish shooting game, the kind found in arcade centres long before it turned up in apps like 3Win8. You sit at one of the cannons around a tank full of fish, aim, and fire. Each shot costs points; each fish you catch pays points back.

The table

The tank has room for eight cannons, two on each edge. Apart from your own cannon, every seat in the screenshots reads Empty (with a 00:28 countdown in the first), so you have the table to yourself. A small badge in the top-left corner shows the table number (16 here), and the buttons in the top-right corner are for help, exit and sound.

The fish range from small striped fry and flying fish up through clownfish, pufferfish, red lobsters, octopus and a sawfish, to a big orca that crosses the screen. As a rule of thumb in this genre, the larger and rarer the creature, the more it pays and the more shots it takes.

Shooting and the bet

Your cannon sits at the bottom of the screen with your points (626.00 in the second screenshot) under it. The number on the cannon is what each shot costs, 1.00 here. On the right edge are Bet +1.00 and Bet -0.50 to raise or lower it.

Tap to fire where you aim. Catches pay the fish's value times your cannon bet, and the coins stack up next to your seat (3.00 in the screenshot).

The Whirlpool

In the second screenshot a green Whirlpool effect has opened around a clownfish, with a banner reading 27.00 Point. Specials like this sweep up a group of fish in one go, and they are where the bigger single payouts in fish games come from.

Keeping it under control

Fish games burn points faster than they look, because you are paying for every shot, including the misses. A few habits help:

• Start at the lowest cannon value and stay there until you know the fish.
• Aim at a target instead of spraying the screen.
• Decide a stop point before you sit down; the fast pace makes it easy to shoot through a balance.
