Sedie on 3Win8: The Four-Disc Odd/Even Game, Its Six Bets and Their Real Odds

Sedie is the 3Win8 version of Xoc Dia, the Vietnamese street game played with a plate, a bowl and four small discs. It is one of the simplest games in the app, and one of the easiest to reason about, because the maths behind it fits on a single line.

The rules from the Game Guide

• Four round buttons each have a red side and a white side.
• They go on a plate, a bowl covers them, and the bowl is shaken.
• When it lifts, you count how many show red and how many show white.

The possible results are 4 white, 3 white 1 red, 2 white 2 red, 3 red 1 white, or 4 red. Even covers 4 white, 2-and-2 and 4 red. Odd covers the two three-and-one results.

The six bets and what they pay

The chances assume each disc is a fair 50/50, which is how an RNG version should behave. Even and Odd return 96 cents profit per ringgit, so you give up about 2% over time. The three-and-one bets would need to pay 1:3 to be fair, and the four-of-a-colour bets would need 1:15, so those carry much heavier edges (about 12.5% and 31%).

The board and buttons

The table is a 3 x 2 grid: 4 White, Even and 4 Red on top, then 3 White 1 Red, Odd and 1 White 3 Red. At the bottom are Bets, Win, the chip (1.00), Clear, Rebet and Start. Start runs the shake.

Playing it sensibly

If you play Sedie, Odd and Even are where your money lasts longest. Treat the 1:10 boxes as occasional small side bets rather than the main event, and remember that the history grid is only a record: four reds in a row do not make white any more likely on the next shake.
