Sparta on 3Win8: The Expanding Spartan, 15 Free Games at x2, and What to Bet

Sparta on 3Win8 is a 30-line slot on a mountain backdrop, and the reason to play it is the Spartan himself. He is a full-height warrior in a crested bronze helmet who, when he lands, stretches over an entire reel and stands in for everything except the scatter.

The wild in action

The paytable is short on words: "Expanding wild appears on reels 2, 3, 4. Substitutes for all symbols except scatter."

The last screenshot shows what that means. The Spartan has landed on reel 3 and filled all three rows. On line 1, two Ks on reels 1 and 2 plus the wild make three Ks, worth 0.20 at a 0.02 line bet, and the spin paid 0.50 in total across the lines he touched.

Because one expanded Spartan crosses every line through that reel, the more lines you have switched on, the more he is worth. At 5 lines, he can only pay on 5.

Helmets and the free games

The scatter is a row of Spartan helmets on a gold background. It pays on its own: 2 for two, 5 for three, 25 for four and 200 for five. Above it, the paytable reads 15 Free Games, X2 Multiplier. In the free games the expanding wild is still in play, and every win is doubled.

What the symbols pay

• Warship: 4,000 for five, but only 150 for four, 40 for three and 5 for two.
• Catapult: 2,000 / 100 / 20 / 5.
• Greek vase: 750 / 80 / 15.
• Shield and sword: 500 / 50 / 12.
• A, K 300 / 30 / 10, Q, J 200 / 25 / 7, 9, 10 100 / 15 / 4.

The jump from four to five of a kind is steep on the top two symbols, so a five-reel line is what the big numbers need.

Sizing the bet

The bar has Lines and Bet with minus and plus on each, and the total shows next to them. 30 lines at 0.10 is 3.00 a spin, which is a lot on a small balance. Three sensible settings:

• RM30 balance: 30 lines at 0.01 (0.30 a spin), about 100 spins.
• RM100 balance: 30 lines at 0.02 or 0.03.
• Bigger balances: raise the line bet, not the line count, since 30 is already the maximum.

Cutting lines to 5 at a higher bet is the setup in the last screenshot, and it wastes most of what the expanding wild can do.
