Sun Wukong on Mega888: the Pilgrims, the Peach and the Monkey King Wild

Sun Wukong is Mega888's take on the Journey to the West story, and it puts the whole travelling party on the reels: the Monkey King himself, the pig Zhu Bajie, the bearded Sha Wujing, the monk Tang Sanzang and the white dragon horse that carries him. Behind the reels are sunlit mountains, and the logo sits on a red temple beam.

The pilgrims as symbols

• Sun Wukong: gold fur, golden headband, fierce stare. He is the key symbol (more below).
• Zhu Bajie: the grinning pig in a blue robe, which often lands stacked.
• Tang Sanzang: the monk in a red-and-gold crown and yellow robes.
• Sha Wujing: a bearded figure with a string of prayer beads.
• White dragon horse: a white horse head with a blue-green mane on a red disc.
• Immortal peach: a pink peach with green leaves, a nod to the peaches Wukong steals from heaven in the story.
• Sun Wukong logo: the game's name in gold as a symbol, probably the special symbol, though the screenshots only show one.
• Card ranks: 9, 10, J, Q, K and A in bright, blocky Chinese-style lettering.

The Monkey King fills the gaps

The most useful thing the screenshots show is how often Wukong completes a line. The game frames each winning symbol in red:

• A peach, then Wukong, then another peach on line 6 paid 30.
• A Q, then Wukong, then another Q on line 11 paid 16.
• A pig, then Wukong, on line 6 paid 4.

In each case his portrait sits where a matching symbol should be, which is what a wild does. Treat him as the symbol that turns near-misses into wins.

Bet panel and credits

The controls are at the bottom: Bal, Lines (15) and Bet (15), each with minus and plus, Win, Auto and Spin. Like several Mega888 slots, the game counts in credits, so the balance reads about 2,100 to 2,260 and the bet 15, which is one credit per line. Line numbers 1 to 15 sit on round markers down each side. At the top: Minor, Random and Major meters, a back arrow and a settings cog.

What the balance says

The six captured spins paid 13, 22, 21, 38, 31 and 68 on a bet of 15, which looks generous. The balance tells the rest of the story: between those screenshots it slid from 2,262 to 2,114 before recovering to 2,183, because the losing spins in between were not captured. The captured wins ranged from just under the bet to about four and a half times it, and wins of that size do not stop a slow drift. Set a stop before you start.
